Council Decision (March 29, 2025): Shelved, Not Dead
After a four-hour special meeting, the Sausalito City Council voted not to accept the $504,600 MTC grant that would have built this design, and the money went back to MTC. Instead, the council asked staff to explore flashing-beacon crosswalks, a loading zone at the Trident dock, more signage, a 20 mph speed limit and stronger enforcement against parking in the center lane (SFGate). The entire Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee resigned in protest.
The engineering is finished and paid for. Bridgeway still needs repaving and is still on Marin County’s High Collision Network, and the crashes haven’t stopped. This design is ready when Sausalito is. For the city’s slower, crosswalk-only follow-up, see Crosswalks.
Crosswalks, Bike Lanes, Curbside Delivery

Bike Lanes on Both Sides
A standard roadway design with Class II bike lanes separating traffic.

Crosswalks for Pedestrians
Crosswalks were proposed at Trident and another at Golden Gate Market. See the page for the updated design since the presentation. After the council shelved this design, the city started a separate, much slower Bridgeway Pedestrian Crossing Project (Princess St. to Second St.) to study crosswalks on their own. More details. Existing parking would have been repurposed as restricted parking. Large trucks would enter from Marin City and exit via Alexander. More details.

Delivery drivers should enter Sausalito from Marin City Hwy 101 exit. Those that arrive from Alexander should turn around near Sausalito Center for Arts. More details.
