Early 1960s - Newspaper articles describe traffic congestion along the Bridgeway waterfront, issues with illegal parking, and early concepts for changing the road configuration (Feb 1961, Jun 1962, Oct 1964)
1965 - Sausalito approves widening Bridgeway to accommodate two 12-foot traffic lanes, one eight foot parking lane, and emergency vehicle lane and a walkway with guard rail and planting”
1967 - The very first official bike lane in the United States is installed in Davis, California
1970 - San Francisco ferry service returns to Sausalito
1995 - General Plan Identified Bridgeway Waterfront as Possible Bike Lanes (page 14)
2008 - Sausalito Bicycle Master Plan recommends eliminating the center lane for bicycle / delivery / emergency lane
April 9, 2016 - South Gateway Study recommends Richardson Bike Lanes and Crosswalk
