The young and the elderly especially have challenges crossing the street with a safe feeling. This video shows the neighborhood school aged child waiting over 2 minutes for a safe time to cross. If he could push a button to turn on the flashers the cars would stop and let him proceed to the waterfront where the bike lanes were proposed.
