Since the vote: the crashes haven’t stopped

The City Council shelved the safety project on March 29, 2025. Since then, Sausalito Police collision logs show these crashes on the study stretch, Bridgeway from Richardson/Second St. to Princess St.:

• April 7, 2025: vehicle crash near 660 Bridgeway (unsafe speed)

• May 3, 2025: person on a bike doored and injured near 485 Bridgeway

• June 7, 2025: person on a bike injured at Richardson & Second

• September 20, 2025: vehicle hits a street sign at Richardson & Second

• April 12, 2026: person on a bike injured near 633 Bridgeway (unsafe turn or lane change)

• May 25, 2026: vehicle hits a fence near 588 Bridgeway

Before the vote there were two more in early 2025, including a person on a bike who suffered a severe injury near 307 Bridgeway on March 23, 2025, six days before the meeting (Sausalito PD misreported the crash by attempting to fault the cyclist, even though the car driver was 100% at fault; see collision log).

In October 2026, a rider reported crashing on a hard-to-see pothole in the center lane near Richardson St., and a second rider nearly went down at the same spot. That’s the same pavement rated 39 out of 100 (see Maintenance is Needed).

2024 Marin County Local Road Safety Plan

In 2024, Marin County published a Local Road Safety Plan (pages 178-194) to identify problem areas and encourage a safer path forward.
