Seawall

Bridgeway needs a new seawall to stay dry with future sea level rise.

See the slides and video containing the proposed designs.

A new seawall could make a Better Bridgeway for pedestrians and cyclists.

This proposal provides a protected cycle track and walkway promenade, but widens the road significantly.

Median as a requirement constrained the urban designers.

The project requirements included the center median as a mandatory aspect of the design. Such forces the expansion of the roadway.

The proposal widens the road sending the walkway into Scoma’s dining room!!!

The lines show the approximate areas where the walkway would extend into the bay and Scoma’s.

The Sustainability Commission recommends continued exploration of the long term sea level rise adaptation strategies for the southern waterfront and Bridgeway promenade. The commission reccommends the consideration of a midcentury solution that could provide FEMA accreddited flood protection and explanation of how this could be adapted to the long term option. For the end of century options, we have a preference for over water pedestrian path with a request to explore more affordable over water options.

The existing road is plenty wide for a livable street of the future…

A Better Bridgeway design showing the improved seawall within the current boundaries of the road and seawall.

Remove the center turn lane and Bridgeway becomes livable.

A raised Seawall makes a Better Bridgeway within the current width.
